![]() ![]() Rio Carnival 2016 Goes On At a First Pace Conquering Zika VirusThere have been several carnival celebrations in every corner of Brazil, the best known ones taking place in Recife, along with Olinda and Salvador. But the biggest and the most popular carnival is undoubtedly the Rio Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. After all, Zika Virus fear has been in the minds of Brazilians and worldwide people; but that does not offer any impact on the festivities and celebrations of Rio Carnival!
• Usually this spectacular event runs from the Friday night to the noon on Ash Wednesday. But in reality, many people work barely from Christmas until the end of Rio Carnival.
• A character created by the Globo Television Network to characterize the Rio Carnival is the Globeleza, which has become a trademark of the Brazilian Carnival. Usually, Globeleza is a dancer covered her body in prominent painting. This year’s Globeleza is Erika Moura, a 23 year old dancer from the state of Sao Paulo. • One key aspect of Rio Carnival is the Samba, which was originated in the early 17th century. In 2016, six of the top samba troupes performed spectacular carnival parade along the wide Sambadrome venue in the city, Rio de Janeiro. Over 4,000 dancers performed throughout the parade route and around 78,000 people seated in the arena to enjoy their performances. Among all the troupes, the Estacio Sa Troupe was the first samba school to parade in Rio Carnival 2016, with the wonderful costumes and floats paying tribute to the martyr Saint George.
